“Why Millennials Should Embrace Traditions”

They were born the day before yesterday, or so it may seem. Millennials have no memory of a world without the World Wide Web, cell phones, or personal computers. They are an Internet-surfing, iPoding, texting, Googling, Facebooking generation. They have come of age during a time of dramatic technological changes in our society. Just consider the fact that the cell phone has become the fastest-adopted invention in the history of humankind. For many of them, texting and instant messaging have become the chosen methods of communication. Perhaps most of all, they have been plugged into one or another electronic device since they were toddlers says Jeff Nevid who wrote “Teaching the Millennials”

In reality, traditional values refers to the standards and values which were embraced by most from it’s earliest beginnings and throughout the majority of its history. It is believed by many, including myself, that these values were a great part of what made the World a great and free place. Traditional values have in the past, included a faith in God, prayer and the Bible, which has for a large part, been the foundation of other national traditions. These included such things as honor and respect for the family, diligent work ethics, absolute values of right and wrong, honesty in business practices, wholesomeness in leadership, respect toward authority, moderation rather than excess, marriage as a prerequisite before having sex or bearing children, a family which consists of both a father and mother, taking responsibility to provide for our own such as one’s spouse, family and children, and so forth.

Why I think millennials should embrace traditions is even though technology allows Millennials to rapidly form relationships across a wide range of virtual and real life communities, familial bonds should continue to be formed around intimate human connection and shared experiences. Family is more than just a group of relatives living together in a household or connected by blood, it should be a personal experience that can be shared with whomever you choose to share it with. Millennials should try to make more of a natural connection with people instead of posting a picture on Instagram for likes. The weather is getting better go out and make a true connection, do like what the older generations did have a picnic in the park, leave the phones at home and go for a long drive or a nice walk. Another thing with millennials is that they do not want to do a regular nine to five job anymore they believe in getting the money quick and spending it even quicker. While the older generation believe in making an honest pay day and saving for rainy days (I use to hear my mom say this and I thought it meant when it rain we can spend money lol, so young so naive). Millennials have a way of saying things like I don’t identify as gay, lesbian, straight, like wtf are you then a lizard, growing up with both parents I really do have a hard time when they say things like that, because at that time the gays wasn’t so out there as they are now, which I have no problem with because to each his/ her own. But now it’s a thing, it’s a thing to not identify as a person. Thank God for my parent and their old school values.

“A Day in The Life of an Early Childhood Educator”

As an educator you are constantly planning for the next day, planning your activities and what is it that you are going to get the children to do to keep them entertained for the whole day. Ok so as my alarm goes off and I am waken from the best last moment of my sleep, I jump up only to realize that it is Wednesday, one of the two days that I am going to the daycare. With a groan I get out of bed and do my morning routine, basically meaning I spend 10-15 asking myself “do I really want to do this job for the rest of my life, is it worth losing the early morning sleep in”.  Ok ok I’m out of the house and rushing now to go get the bus, because I hella late and I have to be at the daycare for 9:00am, I’m off the bus and waiting for the next bus to take me to the daycare and yes I miss the bus that would of have me on time, so I’m waiting and I just realize that I’m missing a very important part of my activity and I have fifteen minutes before the next bus arrive. Now I’m swearing and really questioning why the hell do I want to do this fucking job. Now I’m rushing across the street praying that a bus any damn bus to come now, I get one within two minutes I’m in Jean Coutu getting my item, back at the cash looking for money, no money but wait I have plastic money (credit card) thank God for plastic money. Out of the store and right back into a bus, five minutes before the next bus arrive, now I have faith it’s ok I’ll make that bus because I’m literally two stops away I will be there within two minutes, I’m off the bus look up the street and yes it is coming THANK YOU JESUS!

I arrive at the daycare half and hour over my time, no worries all I have to do is just avoid seeing the director and everything will be ok. Went to the staff room change my shoes and put on my game face, because I’m about to turn this horrible day around, my activity for the children is amazing and they will have a lot of fun doing it. I’m going upstairs and as soon as the children sees me they all come running to greet me with big smiles and hugs for me, and this right here this moment is the reason why I haven’t given up on doing this job. Knowing that for two days a week I get this welcome totally make me want to do this job even more. So as the day went on I become more and more relax knowing that even with a bad start of the morning I am not going to make it ruin my day. I did my activity with the children and it was a total hit they are having fun doing it and I am having fun watching them turn my creative idea into a work of art. With the “I love you and the hugs”  that I received during the day made me forget that I was having a horrible day, when it all come down to it and the end of the day I will not trade this job for anything in the world, knowing that I am making an impact on young lives, will give me the strength and the encouragement to continue doing it. It’s the end of the day and I’m saying goodbye for like the hundredth time not wanting to leave because I’m having so much fun there. A total big change from this morning, from not wanting to go to not wanting to leave and believe it or not it was one of the best days at the daycare. I’m home back in the comfort of my bed and thinking yes I get to get up tomorrow and do it all over again, but this time I actually do want to be there and I’ll be hoping the day will not start out as bad as it did today.

“The Millennial as Parents”

When  you think of millennial the first thing that comes to mind are that they are the ones who stare at their iPhone screen, rather than someone or anything that is in-front of them. Ok ok  lets give them a little credit and just imagine the millennial as parents, YES PARENTS! one might think that all is lost for the future when you think that millennial are the one making the next generation of children. In fact most millennial who are parents especially the moms, they do not want to raise their children the same way they were brought up,they really want to be more involved in the parenting. Not only that but the millennial moms are becoming more prevalent in the upbringing of their children in the modern parenting styles.

lets talk about “the modern parenting styles” and what it mean to the millennial, well modern parenting styles focuses on nurturing a child so they feel confident in their individuality and their special place in this world and stops at nothing to provide everything their child should need or want so they can achieve this elevated sense of self. Modern Parenting is relatively conflict free because everything is an immediate yes or at worst, a weakly negotiated maybe which ultimately becomes yes. Modern Parents don’t like conflict because they feel it might bruise their child’s fragile self esteem and sees the child as a unique individual, deserving of special attention, recognition and ultimately a special place in this world regardless of cost to others. Admittedly, it is a wonderful way to parent but it isn’t very realistic nor does it prepare your child for the real world.

It  have gotten so bad that this new parenting methods uses the word parent as a verb and goddamn verb for crying out loud.  “I don’t want to parent like my parents did”, meaning that they do not or will not do the things that their parents did to them as a child, for example before dads will go to any lengths to scare off their daughters boyfriends. But now the dads will go out of their way to make the boyfriend and his son or daughter feel more comfortable. I guess I will have to live with this new method of parenting until something else better come along. Yes families have change and come a very long way, the gender roles are no longer traditional and the parenting styles have evolved, according to Jim Joseph of the Huffington post.

Millennials and the over sensitivity of how to take care of children

What’s with the over sensitivity of how to handle children? As an educator I was once told that I cannot say “I love children” because we are not allowed to say that, because it may come off as the wrong way. But when you work with children and you are  asked  a question such as “why do you want to work with children?” The only answer one can think of is the love they have for children. The love they have for their job, to be able to see the children grow and achieve their milestones and the potential to see their developmental needs reach.

We live in a world where you can’t talk to hard to your children, because that will come off as abuse. Really abuse! for telling your child not to do something that might hurt him or her for the future, let’s say for instance that a parent allow their child/children to do what ever they want to do. What do you think will become of that child in the end? There’s an old saying that says “spare the rod, spoiled the child” which basically refers to not punishing your kids but let them do whatever they want. Hence we end up with the millennial, who thinks that every thing that, is not their way is abuse.

Even though i’m considered as a millennials, just because I was born in a certain era doesn’t mean my mentally is the same as they are now, I was raise where i had to give respect and i was punish for doing something wrong. I thank God for my parents for being the old school generation, that instill rules and gives punishment for wrong doing, because I won’t of be the person I am today. So for the millennials who thinks that punishing your child when they do something wrong is abuse, this is what I have to say to you, SHUT THE HELL UP! you are the reason why the older folks shakes their heads at our generation and appreciate their  good old days.

According to Popsugar “this generation believes in only seeing the happy median between the organic-puree-making moms and free-range parents who don’t believes in boundaries” this is exactly what i’m saying. The new age generation believes in letting their children run free, like we are suppose to live like the hippies with no rules and regulations for another. That is why we end up with children who are more cry babies than anything in daycare, because when they have to follow the rules of their educators and cannot get their way they tend to go in a corner and cry, while at home they have all of the freedom they want because mom and dad are too busy on their phones to actually give a damn about their well being. If you are one of the few who still believes in paying the price for your act, then go ahead and do it, please there is a big difference between punishing your child and child abuse , so be mindful of what you do give as a punishment.

Millennial in the work place as an educator

When you think of an educator, you think that she or he is someone who is responsible, respectful, and trustworthy, patience because they are taking care of children. I’m sure you don’t think that it is some one who is very young full of tattoos, piercings, some who think that the new way of smoking is vaping. In this generation, generation Y they can’t even form a  proper sentence these days without sounding stupid, “you vape bro, dude that’s awesome or my favourite “do you even”. For the love of Christ I will not want my children to be in a daycare where someone  speaks like that. When a parent leave their children in the care of someone they expect nothing but the best from that person. Not someone who is more interesting in what is happen on their phone at the moment, taking care of children requires at lot of energy, patience , and most of all 360 degrees of point of view. Meaning that at all time you have to have your eyes on the children because one minute of not seeing a child could mean the end of your career the end of a child’s life, you never know what can happen in that minute. Many time I will hear stories from my professors saying that educators will lose children because they weren’t paying attention and for one minute they decided not to pay attention to a child and they found the child outside. Children are inquisitive little bastards that will get on your last nerve, but you have to have the right mind set to deal with them, so again do I think that the millennials can deal with being great educators no and yes. No because this generation believes in having everything done now, quick, easy, being an educator is none of that. When I first started studying early childhood education I was told that one in ten educators will burnout in the first five years of being on the job, because of the requirements that come with it. Generation Y won’t last five minutes as an educator because it is not done job where you just sit and watch a kid. It’s not babysitting it so much more than that, and for yes ,why I think they can make it as an educator is simple, as a child I was told “never judge a book by it cover at least read the first page” so because of that I will give the millennials the benefit of the doubt to prove me wrong. To go out there and find a job as an educator with your piercings and tattoos. Because I know people who look like big bad monsters but have the heart of a teddy bears, so if piercing and tattoos are your thing go into my field of work and explain to the little rugrats your tattoos, because trust me they will be asking you a hundred questions about them. As I said they are inquisitive/learning and everything can be used as a teachable moment with them as long as they want to learn what is going on  teach it to them.
